The red kites are soaring today in the sunshine in our valley. We have a nest quite close by and the youngsters always fly our way this time of year.
I love to see them soaring because they go so high and it looks so effortless. That’s because it is effortless. Once they’ve flown into a thermal, the hot air rising under their wings lifts them higher and higher. No flapping, no effort, no exhibitions of strength and stamina. They just ride the wind.
It reminded me of the times when I have exhausted myself flapping, when I could not make the effort anymore and had run out of strength and stamina. That was when that God-thermal, the unseen strength of the air, caught me and carried me.
And it reminded me that I don’t have to strive and struggle now, like the Red Kites, I can relax and soar in the strength of the unseen wind of God.
Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
